Overview

Our client, a leading public sector organisation, is seeking a Level 2 Network Engineer to join their Dublin City Centre office on a 3-year day rate contract. This role involves providing hands-on support and management of Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), Unified Communications, and Wireless Technologies across multiple sites in Ireland.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a large-scale, mission-critical network infrastructure, ensuring network stability, security, and performance across a distributed enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Network Operations & Support
  • Manage and support Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN) across approximately 130 sites.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Alcatel, Cisco, and other network switches and routers.
  • Support and maintain network security policies and ensure compliance with best practices.
  • Work with multiple third-party WAN providers to ensure service continuity.
  • Provide hands-on network troubleshooting, including VPN technologies and SD-WAN solutions.
  • Wireless Network & Unified Communications Support
  • Maintain and troubleshoot enterprise wireless networks (802.11xxx standards).
  • Administer HP Aruba wireless solutions, including ClearPass and Airwave.
  • Provide support for cloud-based Unified Communications systems (8x8 or similar).
  • Network Monitoring & Performance Management
  • Use Omnivista, Zabbix, Wireshark, and FortiManager for network performance monitoring.
  • Proactively monitor and resolve network incidents to prevent downtime.
  • Respond to Level 2 and priority Helpdesk tickets and track all issues using a ticketing system.
  • Data Centre & Infrastructure Management
  • Maintain and manage data centre and comms room infrastructure.
  • Ensure cabling standards are maintained across multiple locations.
  • Manage environmental controls including UPS, air conditioning, and IoT sensors for monitoring.

Key Requirements

Experience & Technical Knowledge

  • Minimum 4 years' experience in a similar Level 2 Network Engineer role.
  • Strong working knowledge of LAN/WAN environments including switching and routing protocols (Ethernet, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, OSPF, BGP).
  • Experience with Fortinet SD-WAN or other SD-WAN technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with VPN configuration and troubleshooting.

Security & Compliance

  • Strong focus on network security, ensuring industry best practices are followed.

Tools & Monitoring Expertise

  • Experience using Omnivista, Wireshark, Zabbix, or similar network monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of Aruba Wireless Controllers, Aruba ClearPass, and Airwave.

Soft Skills & Problem-Solving

  • Ability to work independently, especially in high-pressure outage situations.
  • Strong communication skills, working across teams to support critical network operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple vendors and third-party service providers effectively.

Qualifications (Preferred, Not Mandatory)

  • Relevant IT networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, JNCIS, Fortinet NSE).
