Senior Backend Engineer – Kotlin / JVM

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a fast-paced, product-focused engineering team responsible for delivering scalable backend systems for a high-growth digital platform. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working in a lean environment, and contributing to systems that are built for scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, concurrent backend services using Kotlin and the JVM ecosystem
• Build and maintain APIs that support user-facing applications
• Work cross-functionally with product managers, frontend engineers, and QA to deliver features end-to-end
• Drive architectural decisions that support scale (10x–100x growth)
• Utilize AWS services for deployment, monitoring, and performance optimization
• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in peer reviews
• Embrace a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and improvement

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer with strong proficiency in Kotlin or other JVM-based languages
• Demonstrated experience building asynchronous and concurrent systems
• Hands-on experience with AWS and containerized infrastructure
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
• Ability to operate independently, communicate clearly, and collaborate in a distributed environment
• Startup or growth-stage experience preferred — comfortable with ambiguity and fast iteration cycles

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Argo CD or similar
• Experience working with teams using Playwright or modern frontend automation frameworks
• Background in regulated industries such as financial services or healthcare
