R&D Internship in Technology Development

Optotune is a strongly growing and internationally active optics company based in Dietikon, Switzerland. We develop, manufacture and market the latest generation of adaptive optical elements for industrial and consumer market.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to join our research and development team working on technology development. The focus of this internship will be the low-level software development for the control of a newly developed machine. The R&D intern will work under the guidance of senior engineers to assist with ongoing research, development, and testing of new products. This is a full-time internship position for a duration of a minimum 6 months, starting as soon as available.

• Assist in and proactively design in-house software to control a machine under development (in Python and C#)


• Independently write and test code packages


• Conduct test runs and analyze experimental data using appropriate statistical methods and tools


• Collaborate with team members on the design of the machine


• Participate in team meetings and contribute to team discussions and problem-solving


• Maintain accurate and organized records of experimental data and results


• Development of small hardware components (electronics, firmware) is possible

• Finished or currently enrolled in an MSc degree in physics, mechanical, electrical, or optical engineering or a related field


• Previous experience in programming and data analysis


• Understanding of basic optics and physics principles and laboratory techniques


• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail


• Ability to work independently and in a team environment


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English


• Experience in electronics is a plus
