Platform Engineer Computer Vision

PostNL
Netherlands · Full-time · Mid-Senior

As a Platform Engineer, you will help build PostNL's intelligent camera ecosystem. You will develop and expand the brand new platform to run vision technology reliably and scalable across PostNL's logistics locations in a hybrid infrastructure.

This is why you choose for PostNL as a Platform Engineer

Visible impact: You help solve logistical challenges using camera feeds and smart algorithms – from roll container detection to recognizing the status of loading doors

Challenging scaling: You’ll developer a brand new platform that is expanding from a single location to the entire PostNL network. You will help create the blueprint

Technology that works: You’ll work in a hybrid infrastructure with tools such as AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and edge computing to ensure performance and stability

Freedom and trust: Work from home, the office, or on location – you choose what works best

Growth and collaboration: You’ll work in an ambitious team and continue to develop yourself via the PostNL Academy

Your role

As a Platform Engineer, you’ll help build and scale a brand-new platform that brings computer vision to life across PostNL’s logistics network. This platform processes camera feeds from logistics sites and uses AI models to detect objects and statuses — from counting roll containers to recognizing open loading doors. You'll work at the intersection of cloud and edge, developing a scalable, cloud-native architecture on AWS while also managing local virtual machines and deploying smart edge computing solutions. Your role is crucial in bridging these environments — ensuring that AI models run efficiently both in the cloud and directly on-site, where low-latency and reliability are essential

From designing the technical blueprint for national rollout to ensuring security and privacy (like blurring faces in footage), you’ll help shape a resilient, hybrid platform that powers real-time vision technology throughout PostNL’s operations. You’ll collaborate closely with suppliers, internal network teams, and AI specialists to align architecture with innovation, keeping performance and scalability front and center

Your team

You’ll be part of the Vision Platform team — a brand-new, growing team currently consisting of three members: a Product Owner, a Lead Engineer, and a Platform Engineer. As the platform scales, the team will expand to increase its impact. With a strong R&D mindset, this team is pioneering new territory for PostNL. That means you’ll often be working with third-party software that comes with quirks, incomplete documentation, and unexpected behaviors. And that’s okay — we don’t expect perfection before launch. Instead, we embrace a “let’s figure it out together” approach, whether that’s pair programming or heading out to a logistics location to troubleshoot live

The Vision Platform team sits within the Edge & OT department, a tight-knit group of engineers, data scientists, and solution consultants. Together, you support the E-commerce Business IT unit at PostNL, working on innovations that have visible, real-world impact

This is what we deliver you:

A role full of innovation and work that you can literally see on every street in the Netherlands. At PostNL, we aim to grow into the logistics e-commerce platform of the future. So that we can deliver special moments even smarter, faster, and better. Your mentality and our challenge – we bring them together. In return, you can count on an attractive package of employment conditions.

Further more:

  • A gross monthly salary between €4,453 and €6.307 (scale 11) for a 37-hour workweek. But 32 hours is also possible!
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility to work hybrid. Work from home at least two days? Then you’ll receive a €45 net monthly allowance.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 25 vacation days.
  • Engineering laptop – Mac or Windows.
  • Commuting travel allowance.
  • A solid pension plan via the PostNL pension fund

This is what you bring:

You’re a hands-on engineer who takes initiative and works independently on robust solutions. You understand both practical operations and technical details, communicate easily with stakeholders, and can clearly explain complex challenges. You’re proactive, take initiative, and bring structure to a growing domain with an increasing number of use cases.

You also recognize yourself in the following:

  • You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree thinking level.
  • You have experience with vision technology or AI/ML-based image processing.
  • You have strong knowledge of AWS backend and edge computing.
  • You have worked with container platforms such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • You have experience with CI/CD (such as GitHub Actions) and monitoring local systems.
