Backend Software Engineer

Duration: 9 months

Rate: Up to 100 EUR per hour

Location: Hybrid (Amsterdam) at least 1 day per week

Role overview: End-to-end development and ownership of scalable backend services, specifically within a high-throughput messaging platform.

Core Responsibilities:

• Full SDLC: design, build, test, deploy, and monitor scalable services.
• Own services in production: performance monitoring, observability, incident resolution.
• System design and integration: evaluate architecture and integrate with internal components.
• Improve processes and service reliability through root cause analysis and best practices.
• Collaborate effectively across teams with clear and structured communication.

Key Technical Skills:

• Languages: Java
• DevOps & Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Maven, Git
• Cloud & Services: AWS (Lambda, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, DynamoDB)
• API Design: REST best practices, Swagger/OpenAPI, versioning
• Data & Messaging: Kafka, Redis, AWS SQS, Cassandra, DynamoDB
• Testing & CI/CD: Unit, integration, and E2E tests; Jenkins, Harness, other CI tools

Preferred Experience:

• Scalable system design, graceful degradation (retries, fallbacks, circuit breakers)
• Containerized applications and service mesh (e.g., Envoy)
• Streaming and asynchronous processing solutions
• Legacy and phased system integration
