Do work that matters

As a Data Scientist you will play a key role in the design, development, and deployment of state-of-the-art ML and Gen AI models with the support of our Technology partners. This role involves designing and developing cutting edge Gen AI solutions to accelerate Tech modernization, SDLC and uplift customer experience. You will work closely with key stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure best customer and business outcomes.

You will come with a strong business acumen along with demonstrable experience in using statistics, machine learning and Gen AI solutions to revolutionize our relentless pursuit for customer excellence!

You will be part of a high-performing team of data scientists that concentrates on data models to solve data science problems. Using the latest technology to solve our customers’ most complex problems, you will contribute to the development and testing of new ideas and make use of one of the biggest transaction databases in Australia.

The Data Science team sits within Data & Analytics team, supporting all other business units within Bankwest.

As a community, our data scientists have diverse backgrounds and industry experience, with state-of-the-art machine learning, research and development expertise, and in-depth knowledge of structured and unstructured data in the Bank. They are open-minded, curious and passionate about problem solving and data driven innovation at scale. At Bankwest, we collaborate with universities and start-ups, hold regular knowledge sharing, technical training and external talks which aid in growing the data science community and industry reputation.

We are interested in hearing from people who:

  • Can develop applications and build behavioural models and operational models across digital and any other space
  • Can collaborate with key business areas, stakeholders, cross functional teams including UX designers, engineers, product owners to provide implementable AI and ML solutions to drive engagement and customer satisfaction.
  • Are experienced in applying high complexity data science techniques to large and unstructured data within a corporate environment.
  • Have a natural talent to communicate and positively influence a diverse and large group of stakeholders and cross-functional teams
  • Passionate about building market leading commercial, statistical, financial modelling assets that utilises state of the art data science
  • Excited about tackling new challenging business problems in data science
  • Adept with using a combination of commercial and technical data science models to find unique solutions in adding strategic value to the business.
  • Collaborative in nature to work with product teams, curious enough to solve data problems and courageous in positively influencing senior stakeholders
  • Constantly thinking outside the box and breaking boundaries to solve complex data science problems

Tech skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure to any ML and statistical modelling will set you up for success in this role.

  • Solid foundational experience in building and deploying statistical, traditional ML and Gen AI models.
  • Hands-on coding skills that allow you to build packages and implement ML model ideas easily using Python, PySpark, SQL, AWS/ Azure.
  • Familiarity with software engineering principles, or an engineering background and conceptual understanding of deployment and CI/CD practices.
  • Track record of proficient data wrangling skills and efficient large data manipulation.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or similar subjects.
