Junior Backend Developer

PlusMinusOne is a mobile startup studio that focuses on developing and marketing its own apps that are used and loved by millions of people around the world. Our products collectively reach more than a half-million new users every month in the US market alone. We are a hybrid startup with offices in San Francisco, Istanbul and Ankara.

We have been building mobile products focused on Business, Photo & Video, and Education categories in the App Store mainly for the US market since 2016. And in each of these categories, our goal is the same: provide actual value to people with the best mobile user experience.

We’re in an exciting period of growth and are looking for exceptional Junior Backend Developer who will help us shape the future of mobile.

What we are looking for:

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Experience with backend development, ideally in a startup or fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of Node.js and experience with REST API development
• Basic understanding of AWS services, CDN (Amazon CloudFront, etc.), and cloud environments
• Good understanding of OOP, Design Patterns, and Clean Code principles
• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases
• Experience or willingness to work in an agile environment
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git)
• Interest in working with 3rd party APIs and integrations
• Basic knowledge of caching techniques for performance optimization
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to learn and grow

Your responsibilities will be:

• Developing backend services for our mobile apps under guidance
• Collaborating with the team to refine and integrate applications
• Learning and applying best practices in backend development
• Participating in planning meetings, task estimations, and code reviews
• Exploring and implementing new technologies to improve our systems
