Head of Embedded Firmware Engineering (Full-time, On-site)

Location: El Segundo, CA

Visa: Not available (must be a U.S. citizen, able to obtain top-secret security clearance)

Role Overview:

The Head of Embedded Firmware Engineering will lead the embedded firmware team, establish a CI/CD culture, scale the team, and ensure efficient firmware development for cutting-edge technology. This position requires both leadership and technical expertise, with hands-on involvement in debugging and firmware development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish a CI/CD culture for firmware development.
• Lead and build a high-performing firmware team.
• Act as an individual contributor (IC) with hands-on involvement, especially in debugging and differentiating between electrical and firmware issues.
• Collaborate closely with hardware and electrical teams, requiring a solid understanding of both areas.

Required Experience:

• 8-15 years of experience in firmware engineering with extensive hardware exposure.
• Proficiency in C/C++, STM, I2C, SPI, CAN BUS, Bare Metal Programming, UART, and related technologies.
• Strong background in electrical and hardware experience, with the ability to dive deep into the technical aspects.
• Strong understanding of modern software deployment practices, particularly release workflows for git and CI/CD of firmware.
• Experience implementing embedded CI/CD pipelines for firmware.
• Experience recruiting or building out engineering teams.
• Familiarity with FPV drone software (ELRS, BetaFlight, BLHeli, BlueJay) is a plus.
• Experience with microcontrollers, especially ST Microelectronics, and embedded protocols (I2C, SPI, CAN BUS).
• Experience with low-level and bare metal embedded programming, new board bring-up, and basic electrical engineering skills (e.g., Ohm's law, circuit debugging, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
• Comfort working in fast-paced environments, particularly with companies that produce low-cost custom hardware with fast iteration cycles (e.g., consumer electronics, toys).

Work Policy: On-site, full-time in El Segundo, CA
