Senior Data/Market Analyst, Gas and LNG Market

We are looking for an analytical and motivated Senior Data/Market Analyst to lead and strengthen our Gas and LNG Market research in Oslo, Norway. The position will be a key resource in modelling both short-term/spot and long-term global and regional gas and LNG prices, focusing on commodity fundamentals. The candidate will need to be detail oriented, have a passion for data and statistical analysis, be comfortable with clients, and be a team player.

The foundation of our products is high volume of factual data combined with sophisticated in-house data management systems and forecasting tools modeling physical and market mechanisms governing commodity markets. Data Analysts are the backbone of the company and are responsible for adding scientific value to our databases, which are used by clients around the world. As a Data Analyst you will collaborate frequently with other analysts from different teams.

 
Responsibilities

• Technical research of energy commodity fundamentals and understanding gas and LNG price formation
• Primary research focus is short-term gas and LNG supply, demand, trade flows, shipping, weather, power mix and price forecast
• Gather, classify, analyze and synthesize information coming from multiple sources through statistical methods and economic analysis

• Production of quantitative and qualitative research reports and commentaries delivering strategic market outlooks
• Communicate results internally and support of our external customers; translate client's strategic thinking into actionable goals
• Support sales and business development process over time as knowledge and experience grows
• Lead the modeling team within the Gas and LNG commodity market research team

Requirements / Skills

• Strong academic track record in a data driven field such as mathematics, physics, engineering, economics, quantitative finance or information technology
• Experience with and/or a strong interest in developing numerical models/algorithms to describe processes within science, economics, markets or similar
• Academic or work experience with databases (SQL)
• Academic or work experience with programming, ideally in Python (MATLAB or R)
• Experienced in statistical analytics, including regression analysis, data smoothing and trend analysis

• Understand machine learning techniques or interested in learning
• Proficient in Excel (basic formulas, pivot tables, ability to structure large spreadsheets efficiently)
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with a positive can-do attitude
• Excellent team player with a sense of initiative
• Able to communicate well in English both verbally and in a written form
