Online Client Lead Engineer – Multiplayer AAA – Fully Remote


Our client, a AAA co-development studio, is looking to hire an Online Client Lead Engineer for a newly created role within the company.


In your capacity as an Online Client Lead Engineer, you will oversee the creation and management of the online platforms, making sure they work flawlessly with the games and providing top-notch multiplayer experiences. You will oversee a group of engineers in the design, implementation, and optimisation of scalable and dependable online services that raise player pleasure and engagement by utilising your technical knowledge and leadership abilities.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Develop and execute the technical strategy for online services, aligning with the studio's overall vision and goals
  • Oversee and coach a group of gifted senior engineers, offering direction, encouragement, and support to promote excellence in the creation of online services.
  • Directly involved in the architecture, design, and development of stable web platforms with social features, leaderboards, and matching services
  • Use performance optimisation and monitoring strategies to minimise latency and downtime and guarantee the responsiveness, reliability, and scalability of online services.
  • In order to protect user data and guarantee regulatory compliance, establish and implement security methods and compliance requirements.
  • Work directly with the teams responsible for product management, QA, and game development to offer exceptional multiplayer features and smoothly integrate online services into gaming experiences.
  • Oversee vendor and technology partner relationships, making use of outside knowledge and resources to improve the effectiveness and capabilities of online services.
  • Recognise possible risks and weaknesses associated with online services, and proactively put mitigation plans and backup plans in place to guarantee continuous service delivery.


Candidate Requirements:


  • Proven experience working on releasing AAA games.
  • Must come from a technical background possessing prior experience with C++.
  • Thorough understanding of backend architectures for Azure.
  • Knowledge of Unreal engine.
  • Experience working with PlayFab.
  • Track record of success in managing technical teams and producing outcomes in a hurried, team-oriented setting.
  • Working knowledge of chat, matchmaking, authentication, and CMS systems.
  • Experience with iterative development environments with fast release cycles and familiarity with agile development approaches.
  • Solid understanding of when and how to incorporate third-party tools and systems as opposed to creating them from the ground up.
  • Multiplayer game experience


Salary and Benefits:


  • £70,000 - £90,000 per annum.
