What you’ll be doing...

Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering, this key role will take responsibility for our First Party Hardware team responsible for building and maintaining our first party IoT devices in the field and ensuring those devices are best in class.


The Hardware organisation, led by this role will be responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing new hardware solutions for our Fleet customers that offer best in class stable performance and delight with cutting edge technology.
  • Working with our Device Intelligence teams to build out a suite of infrastructure related to monitoring the health of devices, alerting our teams to problems and proactively pushing fixes to devices in the field. This collaboration will incorporate the health of installation as well as visualising health data for customers in our Reveal platform.
  • Ensuring necessary updates are made to devices to align with security and compliance requirements
  • Automating bench testing in our state of the art hardware lab and ensuring appropriate vehicle testing for all device changes
  • Ensuring governance and overall adherence to standards set out within Verizon
  • Debugging and resolving firmware, hardware and application issues and ensuring best practice around F/W and configuration updates
  • Being the key point of contact for business stakeholders around escalations and troubleshooting issues
  • Managing Design & Manufacturing Vendors responsible for the buildout of all first party IoT devices


In this role, you will work with Product, UX, Service Support and Engineering leaders to ensure we deliver a world class end-to-end experience for our customers through our products. Helping shape the long term vision and strategy for our Hardware devices with forward thinking.

You will be part of a fast-paced product group that plans, designs, develops and provisions innovative customer centric solutions for a variety of connected vehicle systems deployed within a micro services architecture. You must demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, effective decision-making, teamwork, servant leadership, and excellent oral and written communication skills.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategy that these teams will take in the future
  • Creating this vision, and breaking down the tactical roadmap to make it better achievable.
  • Providing guidance and direction to Senior Director and C-Level executives and senior stakeholders.
  • Building relationships across the business to improve the experience of hardware for our customers.
  • Establishing a framework in order to implement a clear cadence of reporting, ceremonies.
  • Driving Lean principles and focusing on continuous process improvement.
  • Setting and tracking OKRs and monthly targets to build a strong disciplined customer centric culture.
  • Staying abreast of the latest trends in the device and IoT space related to connected vehicles as well as trends in AI, mobile and web developments, cloud native architectures.
  • Working with your leadership team, facilitating discussions, aiding in the decision-making process, documenting/communicating outcomes clearly with your organisation.
  • Building and growing high performing teams of innovative professionals by mentoring, coaching and developing internal talent and recruiting industry top talent
  • Preparing and optimizing budgets.
  • Partnering with vendors to ensure quality of service and value for money


What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have…

  • Experience in Engineering Management roles with experience in leading organizations of 50+.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware design and development, in particular in the IoT space.
  • Experience in web and mobile technologies in a SaaS environment is preferred
  • Strong organisational leadership skills and a focus on growing and nurturing talent
  • Extensive experience in working with stakeholders to create hiring strategies to build high performing teams.
  • Must be knowledgeable about industry trends and best practices.
  • Experience with lean, agile and cross-functional development processes, coordinating engineering, product management and UX teams


Even better if you have...

  • Familiarity with OKRs or Hoshin methodology is desirable.
  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D in a relevant technical field preferred – Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering.
