Chief Technology Officer

Summary

We are looking for a hands-on IT leader who can actively drive the successful delivery, performance, and evolution of our IT function. This role combines strategic oversight with deep operational involvement - you will roll up your sleeves to guide architecture, strengthen engineering practices, and ensure secure, reliable, high-quality delivery across all technology initiatives. You will build and mentor technical teams, establish strong delivery and security frameworks, and partner closely with Product and business stakeholders to accelerate outcomes.

This is a critical role for someone who thrives in both leadership and execution, bringing technical depth, delivery discipline, and a security-first mindset to support the company’s growth.

Candidates may be based anywhere in the EU/EEA, UK, or Switzerland. The role will require regular travel to our office locations.

Job Description

Technology & Delivery Leadership

• Own the end-to-end delivery of all technology initiatives, ensuring high-quality, on-time execution.
• Establish strong delivery frameworks, engineering processes, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms.
• Drive alignment between product, engineering, and business to continuously improve outcomes and delivery velocity.
• Oversee architectural decisions and technical roadmaps to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.
  
  

Team & People Management

• Build, mentor, and scale high-performing IT and technical teams.
• Establish a culture of accountability, psychological safety, collaboration, and excellence.
• Implement clear performance standards, goal-setting frameworks, and professional development paths.
• Ensure that engineering leaders are empowered, supported, and aligned with company priorities.
  
  

Security, Risk, & Compliance

• Lead the company’s security strategy - policies, audits, threat assessments, and incident response.
• Maintain and strengthen a security-first engineering culture.
• Oversee compliance with industry standards (e.g. SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR) as relevant.
• Ensure proper governance around data privacy, infrastructure, access control, and secure development practices.
  
  

Execution & Reporting

• Provide clear, data-driven reporting to the CEO and executive team on progress, risks, and performance.
• Establish metrics for engineering output, product quality, uptime, and operational excellence.
• Identify bottlenecks early and lead rapid, structured problem resolution.
• Drive continuous improvement and operational rigor throughout engineering.
  
  

Strategic & Cross-Functional Leadership

• Partner closely with Product, Operations, and Business leadership to define priorities and allocate resources.
• Anticipate technological trends and ensure the company maintains a long-term competitive advantage.
• Own build vs. buy decisions and manage technical vendor relationships.
• Ensure that technology investments align with business value and future growth.
  
  

Requirements & Qualifications

• Background in financial services, fintech, or similar regulated industries is a must.
• 10+ years of engineering or technology leadership experience, with strong hands-on involvement in architecture, technical decision-making, and delivery execution.
• Proven ability to build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Solid understanding of modern engineering practices, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, CI/CD, and scalable system design, with a track record of improving delivery processes and technical quality.
• Experience leading security, risk, and compliance initiatives, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, secure development practices, and incident response.
• Ability to proactively identify bottlenecks, manage risks, and lead structured problem resolution.
• Strong collaboration skills, with experience partnering closely with Product, Operations, and Executive leaders to align priorities and link technology decisions to business outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills with a data-driven approach to reporting progress, performance, and technical topics to senior stakeholders.
  
  

Salary band for this role starts in the region of 6000 EUR gross per month and can be higher, depending on the candidate's skills and experience.
