From fulfilling a single patient’s request for their medical records to powering the AI revolution in healthcare, Datavanters are building the future of how data is connected and used to improve health.

By joining Datavant today, you’re stepping onto a driven and highly collaborative team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare.

What We're Looking For

At Datavant, we value engineers who enjoy solving problems, building products, and applying strong software engineering principles to create meaningful solutions. As a Software Engineer, you will play an important role in growing and improving our healthcare data ecosystem for clients.

Don't know our tech stack well? That's okay. We believe technology is a tool for solving problems, and we value adaptability, curiosity, and engineering fundamentals over experience with a specific set of technologies.

You'll contribute across the software development lifecycle, from architecture and design through implementation and delivery, while collaborating closely with teammates and supporting shared engineering success. From day one, you'll work on meaningful projects and have opportunities to expand your skills, increase your impact, and grow your career.

What You Need To Succeed

  • 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience delivering production-ready code, participating in thoughtful code reviews, and contributing to full-stack application architecture and design.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages, particularly Python and JavaScript/TypeScript (including React), with a focus on writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
  • Strong command of SQL and relational databases, with the ability to model and query data effectively.
  • Experience designing and building scalable data pipelines and workflows for high-volume systems.
  • A collaborative mindset. You communicate effectively, work well across teams, and enjoy partnering with others to solve complex challenges.
  • A track record of delivering meaningful outcomes. You have led projects, supported migrations, and contributed features that created measurable impact.
  • Educational background in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is a plus.

While not required, familiarity with the following tools and domains may help you ramp up quickly:

  • Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS, AWS Marketplace, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, GitHub Actions
  • Data & Analytics: Snowflake, Databricks, Apache Spark, Polars
  • Web & Backend: Flask, scalable API development
  • Platforms: Building and deploying software on Windows, Mac, and Linux
  • Domain Experience: Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or healthcare, particularly healthcare data, HIPAA, and data privacy.

We recognise that experience comes in many forms. If you're excited about this opportunity, we encourage you to apply even if your background doesn't align with every qualification listed above.

What You Will Do

  • Build and deliver impactful products. Play a key role in the design, implementation, and end-to-end development of applications that power our healthcare data ecosystem.
  • Support and mentor fellow engineers while helping build reliable, scalable, and impactful solutions.
  • Take ownership of meaningful projects, contribute to technical decisions, and help shape the future direction of our products.
  • Develop innovative data solutions that help clients unlock better insights and outcomes from healthcare data.
  • Work with modern technologies including Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Spark, Snowflake, AWS, Azure, and more.
  • Share knowledge, contribute to technical discussions, and help strengthen our engineering community, including through our engineering blog.
