Artificial Intelligence Engineer

For one of our clients in Culemborg we are currently looking for a Dutch AI Developer. As an AI Developer, you transform AI models into reliable, production-ready applications. You'll work across the full technology stack from backend development and APIs to visualization and edge deployment. Every AI intervention is visible on the Human-Machine Interface (HMI), and operators can always override AI decisions. This requires AI that is safe, explainable, and seamlessly integrated into the Operational Technology (OT) environment.

In this way, people remain in control while AI makes production processes smarter and more stable. In this role, you'll work closely with our Data Engineer, PLC engineers, OT engineers, and domain experts.

Your responsibilities

• Develop, integrate, and deploy AI and Machine Learning applications—from model to production-ready software.
• Connect AI models to Operational Technology (OT) environments using OPC UA and MQTT, integrate them with the Customer Portal (Mendix), and deploy them in the Microsoft Azure cloud.
• Build reliable and maintainable AI software, including MLOps, monitoring, and version management.
• Ensure AI functionality is secure and compliant with NIS2 cybersecurity requirements and the EU AI Act.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or master's degree such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline.
• You'll regularly communicate with colleagues who do not speak Dutch, and much of our documentation is written in English. Therefore, we are looking for someone with strong communication skills in both Dutch and English, spoken and written (this is a must requirement). Please note if you do not speak Dutch for this role, you will not be considered.
• You're a strong software developer who works in a structured and solution-oriented way and enjoys building new products and technologies.
• Strong software development skills in Python and/or C#/.NET, with experience in APIs and web/full-stack development.
• Experience with, or a strong interest in, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, such as

PyTorch, TensorFlow, Foundation Models (Large Language Models), MLOps platforms such as

azure ML or MLflow.

Preferred

• Experience with edge deployment technologies, such as:
• ONNX
• TensorRT
• Siemens Industrial Edge
• Experience with:
• Reinforcement Learning
• Computer Vision
• Agentic Coding tools
• Experience integrating AI with Operational Technology (OT) and PLC environments.
• Experience with:
• Mendix (low-code platform)
• Microsoft Azure cloud services
