Machine Learning & Predictive Maintenance Engineer (m/f/d) – Industrial Automation & Machine Data
Fürstenau, Germany
€72,000 (rising to €80,000 after 3 years) + Union Salary Increases + Clear Progression to Department Lead
Are you looking for an opportunity to build an IoT and predictive maintenance function from the ground up?
Do you have experience in data science, automation, or IoT architecture and enjoy working at the intersection of engineering and software?
I am currently representing a well-established packaging machinery manufacturer based in Fürstenau. With backing already secured from their VP/GM, they are launching a new predictive maintenance initiative and are looking for an IoT & Predictive Maintenance Engineer to join their team.
In this role, you will design and implement a standardized IoT/edge architecture from scratch, enabling predictive maintenance across their equipment fleet. You will select sensors and data acquisition systems, build the data models and ML algorithms behind anomaly detection, and design the platform end users will rely on for visualization and alerting — working closely with Engineering, IT, and external software and cloud partners throughout.
The successful candidate will come from a Computer Science, Data Science, or Automation Engineering background, with hands-on experience across Python, SQL, time-series databases, and industrial protocols like MQTT and OPC-UA. This is a genuinely rare opportunity: the role reports directly to the Engineering Director, and if the initiative succeeds, there is real potential to grow it into its own department under your leadership.
The Role:
- Design and implement a standardized IoT/edge architecture for predictive maintenance
- Build data models and ML/AI algorithms for anomaly detection and predictive analysis
- Select sensors and data acquisition systems; define interfaces and data streams with Engineering and IT
- Design a user platform for visualization, alerting, and maintenance forecasting
- Ensure data protection compliance alongside external service providers
- Coordinate with line departments and external software/cloud partners
- Monitor data quality and system performance, driving corrective action
- Support pilot projects and technical rollout
The Candidate:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Automation, or related field
- 2+ years of professional experience
- Skilled in Python, SQL, time-series databases, MQTT, OPC-UA, and ML frameworks
- Experience with IoT architectures, sensor integration, and data analysis
- Located in or commutable to Fürstenau
