Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Android Engineer to join a mobile security engineering team responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and resilient mobile solutions used across a large enterprise environment.

You will play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing Android security components and services that support mobile applications at scale. Working closely with architecture, security, and engineering stakeholders, you will help define and implement modern Android solutions while promoting best practices across the wider mobile engineering community.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, building reusable mobile components, and contributing to the overall security posture of mobile applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Android applications, SDKs, and reusable mobile components.
• Build secure, scalable, and performant Android solutions using modern development practices.
• Collaborate with architects, security specialists, and engineering teams to define technical solutions.
• Contribute to the design and evolution of mobile security capabilities and supporting services.
• Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, testing, documentation, and mentoring.
• Optimise application performance, reliability, and user experience.
• Implement robust testing strategies including automated UI and integration testing.
• Work within modularised architectures and promote reusable component development.
• Support technical decision-making and provide guidance on Android best practices.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to long-term mobile engineering strategy.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience developing Android applications using Kotlin and Java.
• Excellent understanding of the Android SDK, Android application lifecycle, and platform capabilities.
• Strong knowledge of Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices.
• Experience with Jetpack Compose for modern Android UI development.
• Solid understanding of MVVM and/or MVI architecture patterns.
• Experience with Android Architecture Components and Jetpack libraries.
• Strong understanding of SOLID principles and clean code practices.
• Experience working within modularised Android codebases.
• Knowledge of threading, concurrency, offline storage, and performance optimisation.
• Experience implementing automated testing, including UI testing.
• Strong understanding of Git and modern version control workflows.
• Familiarity with Android design guidelines and accessibility standards.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience building Android SDKs or shared mobile libraries.
• Exposure to application security, mobile security, or secure development practices.
• Experience working in highly regulated enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated mobile delivery processes.
• Experience with mobile application performance monitoring and benchmarking.
• Knowledge of dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt or Dagger.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting engineering communities.
