Role Description The Vessel Planner is a full-time, on-site role based in Wilayat Sohar. This role is responsible for planning and coordinating vessel operations, including cargo stowage, loading, and discharge sequences for dry bulk, break-bulk, Ro-Ro, and other cargo types in line with operational and safety standards. The Vessel Planner collaborates with terminal operations, shipping lines, and other stakeholders to optimize berth utilization, equipment allocation, and turnaround times. Daily tasks include preparing vessel plans and documentation, monitoring progress against plans, adjusting schedules to address operational changes, and ensuring compliance with port regulations and company procedures. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, supporting incident-free operations, and contributing to continuous improvement of planning processes and system usage.
Qualifications
  • Experience in vessel or terminal planning, port operations, or marine logistics, preferably within dry bulk, break-bulk, or Ro-Ro environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret vessel plans, cargo manifests, and operational data to optimize stowage and workflows.
  • Proficiency with planning and terminal operating systems, MS Office (especially Excel), and willingness to learn new logistics or port management software.
  • Solid understanding of port safety standards, cargo handling procedures, and relevant maritime or port regulations.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work closely with operations teams, shipping line representatives, and other stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in 24/7 port operations, including shifts, and maintain attention to detail under time pressure.
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in logistics, maritime studies, supply chain management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the Port of Sohar or similar industrial port setting, and knowledge of local operational practices, is an advantage.
