About Nexus
Nexus is a decision intelligence platform for K-12 school districts — best understood as a 24/7 data analyst rather than another analytics app. We pull together data from across a district's many systems into one place and surface insights they couldn't otherwise reach, taking work off the plates of teams that are already stretched thin.
We're a small, fast-moving engineering team based in downtown Knoxville. This is a genuine ground-floor opportunity — what you build ships to real districts, fast.
The Role
We're hiring an entry-level Data Analyst to build in Nexus and grow into the full data lifecycle. You'll spend most of your time creating things inside the platform — dashboards, AI workflows, and tools — that turn district data into something useful, while also getting exposure to integrations work and data science projects.
You'll partner closely with our Customer Success team to translate customer requests into engineering deliverables. It's a great fit for a recent grad who wants broad, hands-on experience rather than a narrow, siloed role.
This is an in-person position in Knoxville.
What You'll Do
- Build in Nexus. Create dashboards, AI workflows, and tools inside the platform — both helping with ad hoc requests from customers and proactively building things based on projected need.
- Explore and support integrations. Help us stand up and validate new data integrations across student information systems (PowerSchool, Skyward, and others) and assessment platforms (NWEA MAP, state assessments like STAAR and ACAP, and more).
- Assist on data projects. Pitch in across data normalization and standardization, predictive modeling, data QA, and ad hoc analysis. You won't lead these on day one, but you'll learn by doing alongside the team.
- Partner with Customer Success. Work alongside the CS team to understand what customers are asking for, and help translate those requests into clear, actionable engineering deliverables.
What We're Looking For
- A recent Bachelor's (or upcoming grad) in data science, statistics, computer science, analytics, MIS, math, economics, or a related field.
- Solid SQL fundamentals and comfort working with relational data.
- Comfort building data visualizations and a good eye for making data clear and useful.
- Strong analytical thinking — you can take a messy question and figure out how to answer it with data.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with non-technical teammates.
- Curiosity, ownership, and the appetite to learn quickly in a fast-moving environment.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to Python (pandas, scikit-learn) or basic predictive modeling.
- Familiarity with cloud data tooling, ideally Azure (SQL, Blob Storage).
- Interest in or experience with K-12 / edtech, or with SIS platforms like PowerSchool.
- Any experience with data pipelines, ETL/normalization, or working with messy real-world data.
Why Join
- Real impact, immediately. Small team, growth-stage company — your work ships and gets used, not buried in a backlog.
- Breadth of experience. Building in Nexus, integrations, and data science in one role, with mentorship from senior engineers.
- Mission that matters. You're helping overstretched school districts make better decisions for students.
- Knoxville-based in a growing local tech community.
- Salary Range: $62.5k - $72.5k + equity opportunity
